Fishing in Land O' Lakes!

Panfish Time

March 10, 2017 ·

It’s change up time with the closing of the game fish season. Get your tip-downs, dead sticks, and jig poles ready for a few weeks of some great fishing. I like this time of year, you start to down size your equipment, things get easier and lighter to carry. Driving on the lakes will get a lot easier, you just need to keep eyes on the ice conditions. With the snow gone, and snowmobile trails closed, snowmobile travel won’t be good or as easy, so ATV-UTV seems the transportation of choice, you might need chains for a little traction on your tires and don’t forget your boots also.

Just a reminder of dates that are in play for local area waters: all ice fishing shelters must be removed from the ice daily and when not in use on inland waters north of Highway 64 by the First Sunday following March 12(March 19th) and Wisconsin-Michigan boundary waters by March 15.

Bluegills: These are being found in the weeds using small jigs tipped with waxies, spikes or tipped with plastic.

Perch: You can find these on the deep weed edge and muddy bottoms feeding on minnows and bugs, match the bait to the area you’re fishing for success.

Crappie: Finding a few up in the shallow weeds but the majority are still in the deeper water.

Happy fishing!  Selective harvest is the way to go.  Colin Crawford's Guide Service, crawfordfishing@gmail.com (715)891-2715.  Website is www.crawfordfishing.com or you can also find Phelps Outdoors on Facebook.
