Fishing in Land O' Lakes!

Find the Green and You'll Find the Gold

June 3, 2018 ·

With water temps rising and weeds starting to grow, finding the green weeds, especially nice green cabbage, it seems that all species are using new weeds sometime or another. It is going to start getting busy on the lakes soon with sports and graduations wrapping up early mornings and evenings are going to be the best times to get some fishing done.

Northern Pike:  Fish are being caught while jigging in and along the weeds and by throwing spinnerbaits and spoons.

Walleye: This week, I caught fish using a jig and minnow combo, I like switching to a good weedless jig like a Jack’s Jig, when myself or clients are getting too hung up in the weeds. Keep working the weed lines and slip bobber rigs in and around them.

Panfish:  Perch are still being caught on jigs and slip bobber rigs alike. Crappies can be caught in the weeds under slip bobber rigs using a hook and minnow or twitching a small jig tipped with a plastic under a bobber. Bluegills are moving into the shallows and can be caught slip bobbering.

Muskie:  With spawning over and fish recuperating stay shallow with smaller bucktails and small jerk baits around the new weed growth.

Happy fishing!  Selective harvest is the way to go.  Colin Crawford's Guide Service, (715)891-2715.  Website is or you can also find Phelps Outdoors on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. NPAA #94. Remember, if you hire a guide, make sure the guide is licensed as a guide.
