Fishing in Land O' Lakes!

Water is starting to warm up, so is the fishing

May 20, 2018 ·

With this wind we’ve had the last few days, it has started to mix the water up so water temps have gone down a little, but it is helping it to start to even out. Weeds are starting to grow; they are just a little slow with the late ice out. Muskie season in the north country will open on the 26th of the month.

Northern Pike:  These fish were caught while jigging walleyes in some sparse weeds, they will get more active as the water warms and more weed growth occurs.

Walleye: This week, the fish I caught were mostly all spawned out with a few small males still cruising the shallow in search of any late spawners.  I got fish in as little as 4 feet of water to 30 feet of water, with a variety of baits from jig and minnow combos to casting perch pattern crankbaits.  As the water keeps warming up, weeds will start to become more into play; keep your eyes on your locator.

Panfish:  Perch are being caught on jigs and slip bobber rigs alike. Crappies are starting to stage closer to spawning areas on the lakes that are in the warmer temps.

Happy fishing!  Selective harvest is the way to go.  Colin Crawford's Guide Service, crawfordfishing@gmail.com (715)891-2715.  Website is www.crawfordfishing.com or you can also find Phelps Outdoors on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
